The Department of Customs is considered one of the profiled departments of the university and was established in 1997.

The Department of Customs prepares specialists in three specialties for the national economy of the republic.

     - 1-96010101 - legal support of customs;

     - 1-250109 - commodity research and examination of goods;

     - 1-91010101 - food technology and organization of general catering.

Graduates of these specialties in various structures of the national economy of the country, including the Customs Service, the Tax Committee, the Agency for Standardization, Metrology, Certification and Trade Inspection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and other organizations and institutions with various forms of ownership as specialists in the field of customs, commodity specialist, process engineer, commodity specialist, technologist.

Office of the Department with the Customs Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Regional Customs Administration of the cities of Dushanbe and Tursunzade, the Diagnostic Center of the Agency for Standardization, Metrology, Certification and Trade Control under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan, the National University of Tajikistan, the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, The Customs Academy of the Russian Federation and the Moscow University of Transport cooperate fruitfully. All professors of the department are engaged in research and scientific-methodical work, studied important issues in the field of customs and security. Teachers of the department conduct research on the following topics:

       - directions for the effective use of the economic potential of the customs services of the Republic of Tajikistan;

       - improvement of the organization of control and customs expertise in Tajikistan;

       - issues of improving economic security and food security in the Republic of Tajikistan.

The results of the professor’s research of the department are presented for use in the Customs Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Agency "Tajikstandart". Also, according to the results of research work, permanent professors and staff of the department annually make presentations at international, republican and university conferences.

The department has methodological rooms for the organization of customs control, economics and customs administration. Practical classes are held in the structures of the Dushanbe Regional Customs Administration, the Institute for Retraining of Personnel of the Customs Service of Tajikistan, practical classes are organized and conducted in the subdivisions of the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan.

The teachers of the department make a lot of efforts to improve the quality of education and training of specialists, bachelors and masters at the highest level. To this end, teachers of the department publish textbooks, educational media and methodological instructions on the subjects of the department and make them available to students.

The department operates "Economics", "Organization of customs control" and "Young declarant" departments, in which professors and students of the department participate and are engaged in research activities.

Based on the plans of scientific events of the department, scientific and practical conferences are annually held on the topics “The role of customs in the development of economic relations of the Republic of Tajikistan with far and near countries”, “Food security and stable development of customs activities in the Republic of Tajikistan”.

The scientific activity of the department according to the plan in the direction of ways to improve the customs service and increase the potential of the economy of customs authorities in the Republic of Tajikistan, hygiene and organization of customs laboratories in the Republic of Tajikistan and their contribution to ensuring the security of the country's consumer market.

Thus, the professors of the Department of Customs make a valuable contribution to improving the quality of education and training of specialists that meet state standards of important sectors of the economy.

Since April 2021, the head of the department has been Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Sabat Khikmatov.
